OT-LED DRIVING ASSESSMENT AT HOME

OT Driving Assessment, Starting at Your Home

Astrad's driving assessment checks how safely you drive, and what could help you keep driving. An occupational therapist trained in driver assessment runs every stage. It starts at your home, then moves to real roads nearby. You get clear answers, and practical ways to stay safe on the road.

What Your Driving Assessment Includes

An OT driving assessment looks at the skills you need to drive safely. It has two parts. The off-road assessment happens at your home. Your therapist checks your health, vision, thinking skills and physical abilities. The on-road assessment then looks at how you drive in real traffic. The aim is simple: know what you can do safely, and what support could help.

Frequently Asked Questions

We travel to you across South East Queensland, from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast. The off-road part happens at your home. The on-road part happens on roads near you. Call us on (07) 3477 9366 to check we can reach your suburb.

Your therapist comes to your home for the off-road part. They check your health, vision, thinking skills, physical abilities and knowledge of road rules. You then drive on real roads in a dual-control car, with a driving instructor beside you and your therapist observing.

People often need one after a stroke, brain injury, illness or new disability. Older drivers may need one if their doctor has concerns. People with a disability who want to start driving may need one too. Your doctor or licensing authority may ask you to have an assessment.

One fee covers our travel to you, the off-road assessment, the on-road assessment and all your paperwork. Your written report costs nothing extra. The dual-control car and driving instructor for the on-road drive are charged separately. Call us on (07) 3477 9366 and we will quote you before you book.

Yes. Our travel to you is part of the fee, anywhere from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast. There is no separate travel charge inside that area.

Assessment slots are limited, so times fill quickly. Call us on (07) 3477 9366 and we will tell you what is available for your suburb. If your doctor or licensing authority has set a deadline, let us know when you call.

No. Your therapist gives findings and recommendations. Your doctor and your licensing authority make the final decision about your licence. In Queensland that is the Department of Transport and Main Roads. Recommendations may include lessons, vehicle changes or licence conditions.

You do not need a referral to contact us. If your doctor or licensing authority has asked for an assessment, have their letter handy when you call.

It depends on how your plan is managed and what it funds. Astrad is not a registered NDIS provider. We support self-managed and plan-managed participants, so agency-managed funding is not the right fit. This is general information, not NDIS advice. The NDIA decides what your plan funds.

Call our team on (07) 3477 9366 or send an enquiry through our contact page. We will talk through your situation and book a time that suits you.
